Sunny Bank Koi's Story

A hobby spiralled out of control

Founded in 2007 by cousins and dedicated koi enthusiasts, Sam and Neil, Sunny Bank Koi emerged from a shared love for these swimming jewels.

What started as a humble endeavor soon evolved into a full-fledged passion project where we began importing Koi directly from Japan. Our 36ft polytunnel, boasting three ponds totaling over 10,000 gallons became the nurturing grounds for these majestic fish.

Our first retail store

In 2019, we achieved a significant milestone in our journey with the establishment of our first retail store at Congleton Garden Center where we became a one-stop shop for all your pond and aquarium needs.

The big move

In 2023, a promising opportunity emerged - a storefront nestled in our local high street.

It's quite unconventional for Japanese koi specialists to set up shop on the high street, but it made sense to us. While we excel with our knowledge of Japanese koi, our scope extends beyond that.

Over the past five years, we've proudly catered to various niches, offering products for wildlife garden ponds, aquarium supplies, and an array of tropical fish. That's precisely the path we plan to follow here - come January, we'll be reintroducing tropical tanks once more.

The selection of fish is good and they have been well-cared for by the owner who gave me lots of time to choose and offered really good advice.
